10 important facts about PCOS

  1. An estimated 1 in 10 women have PCOS (but we think it is probably a lot more than this).

  2. Women with PCOS have a higher rates of anxiety and depression.

  3. Less than 50% of women are properly diagnosed. That’s astonishing. Leaving millions of women living with symptoms that go unsupported. PCOS is the most common cause of female infertility.

  4. Sleep disturbances have been found to be twice as common in women with PCOS compared to those without.

  5. Elevated insulin or insulin resistance are not part of the diagnostic criteria for PCOS but are seen in the majority of women with PCOS.

  6. Signs of PCOS may include: Hirsutism, hair loss, acne, weight gain, irregular cycles, PMS, hot flashes, anxiety, brain fog, bloating and infertility.

  7. Despite its name, not all women with PCOS actually have cysts on their ovaries.

  8. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes in women with PCOS at middle age is 6.8 times higher than of the general female population.

  9. Women with PCOS have a higher incidence of gestational diabetes, miscarriages, preterm deliveries, and stillbirths.

  10. ALL symptoms of PCOS are treatable, and can be managed naturally with the right approach. This may include diet and lifestyle changes, herbs and supplements and stress management.
